Following a series of successful house clearances, the Harlington Hospice is now offering a one-stop service centred on its warehouse in West Drayton. 

   “Whether it’s a room or a complete house, unwanted quality furniture and other household items can be removed with just a few days’ notice”, said Kevan Berry, warehouse manager.  But he said goods being cleared must be of good quality for after being sorted they are offered for sale through the Hospice’s charity shops.

   But the service doesn’t stop there; for a nominal charge purchased items can now be delivered to a buyer’s door. Mr Berry said that lack of such a service has deterred potential customers from buying items offering exceptional value for money.

   So, whether it’s collection or delivery, Kevan Berry can be contacted on 07961 008392 to finalise arrangements. House clearances are just one of many innovative money-raising schemes designed to meet the cost of care services provided by Harlington Hospice.

THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS

A big  “thank you” was  extended  to our volunteer team members when they met recently at a tea party held at Lansdowne House, HQ of the Harlington Hospice Association.

   Hosting this happy occasion was Nicholas Tacticos who is responsible for recruitment and training of volunteers. Also present was Elaine Fearnside, Harlington Hospice Chief Executive and Darren Wilson, Head of Income Generation.

   Said Nicholas: “We place great value on these occasions because they provide an ideal opportunity to say “thank you” to the very people on whom we rely enormously. 

   “There is a real risk that because we all lead busy lives the people who are really the unsung heroes of the 

 

 

Harlington Hospice Association will get overlooked. Yet without them we could not possibly provide the range of service currently available to those most in need,” said Nicholas.

 

    Volunteer Forums

 

Nicholas has also arranged a series of  Volunteer Forums  to  be  held  on  the following dates:

 

·        Wednesday 27th April

·        Tuesday 21st June

·        Tuesday 4th October

 

The forums will be held from 7 to 8.30pm. These will be similar to the forum we had in January at the Church Hall.  All of the above events are being held in our Hospice Day Care Centre, said Nicolas.  

That’s what we would like to say to our Day Care Centre clients.  But that’s not as easy as it sounds because we depend on bus operators for vehicle availability.

    Jo-Anne Woolf, Hospice Day Care Centre manager, aims to overcome this problem through the purchase of a seven-seater specially adapted Peugeot minibus.

   Said Jo-Anne: “Having our own minibus offers many benefits.  They include greater flexibility of travel, more choice of destinations and ease of access for wheelchair-bound passengers.

   “Presently, many users of our Day Care Centre find their personal mobility is often severely restricted because their medical condition requires the constant presence of support staff and carers. 

   “By acquiring our own minibus we can add a much-missed dimension to people’s lives without affecting the necessary level of support.  And instead of being confined to a limited area we will be able to travel far and wide, thus enhancing the quality of life which is an essential objective of our overall level of care.”

   But obtaining this much-sought minibus is easier said than done.  Presently we have nothing other than a technical specification and detailed price structure.

We were completely bowled over by a charming lady who arrived at our office the other day. And who wouldn’t be when catching sight of the cheque she was holding, for it was a marvellous £700 donation payable to the Harlington Hospice.

   Bearer of the cheque was Joyce Hearns, a member of the Jack Hi Indoor Bowls Club.  Located in Silverdale Road, Hayes, club members had nominated the Harlington Hospice as their charity of choice. 

   In accepting the cheque, John O’Connor, the Harlington Hospice Fundraising Co-ordinator said: “The generosity of the Jack Hi Indoor Bowls Club provides much encouragement to other local clubs involved in a wide range of interests and activities to follow this marvellous example of supporting the work of the Harlington Hospice.”
