It is with great sadness that the Charity announces the heartbreaking news that Doug Edmonds, our Trustee, colleague and friend, passed away suddenly on 7th September 2021.  The Board of Trustees and everyone at the Charity would like to express their deepest condolences to Doug’s wife Anne and their family.

Both Michael Sobell Hospice and the Charity owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Doug for everything that he undertook over his many years of dedicated service to the Sobell Bridge Club, the Charity and the Hospice.

Having joined the Sobell Bridge Club in 2000, Doug was a key member of the team responsible for raising the funds to construct the Michael Sobell Charity Office Building and its Lecture Hall then became a permanent home for the Bridge Club. At the bridge table, Doug was great fun to play with, both as a partner and in opposition. Under his stewardship the income raised for the Hospice steadily increased and to date the Sobell Bridge Club has donated nearly £900,000 of vital support.

Doug’s accountancy skills were also put to good use as Chairman of the MSH Finance Committee in managing the funds and cash flow with extreme care as the Charity had struggled for funds during the temporary closure of the Hospice and since then with the effects of the COVID pandemic and lockdowns.

Doug’s dedication, strength of character and unwavering allegiance to Michael Sobell Hospice will never be forgotten and he is already sorely missed by us all.
