10 years of memories – is the focus of this summer’s Ladies in the Night walk in aid of Michael Sobell Hospice, which hopes to see over 1,000 walkers powering the streets, starting from Mount Vernon Hospital, on Friday 19th June.

“Since the inpatient unit reopened, we’ve seen so many of our supporters wanting to give something back and get involved,” explained Ophelia Chambers-Henry, Michael Sobell Hospice Charity Events Manager. “This is our biggest fundraising event of the year, so the perfect opportunity for everyone to get behind us and help raise vital funds for the Hospice, and the continued end of life care and support which it provides to local people in their time of need.”

The recent refurbishment of the Hospice Inpatient Unit, fully funded by Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, cost over £385,000 which has included the creation of new side wards, additional toilet facilities, three wet room shower and toilet areas, privacy screens in shared areas, a new kitchen to allow for in-house catering, a more modern reception and cafe area as well as additional furniture.

Commenting on the reopening, Chair of Charity Trustees, Michael Breen, said: “This vital service needed to be re-established, so we have invested £385k of funds that our supporters have raised over the years to refurbish and improve the Hospice services. We are excited to be working alongside Harlington Hospice to ensure this valued service continues.”

An early bird sign up offer of £14pp is now available via the Charity’s website or simply pick up a registration form at one of the charity shops in Northwood, Eastcote or Ruislip, or pop in to the Fundraising Office next door to the Hospice. A team offer of £12pp is also available for teams of 10 or more. Both offers are available until the end of the month.

Sponsoring the event for the third year-running is Allsop Durn Solictors, based in Ruislip. Commenting on their support, partner David Durn, said: “I’ve lived in this area all of my life and have known patients and families who have benefited from the Hospice. I lost a colleague there in 2009 which is when I decided to raise money and assist.

“This is the 3rd year of supporting this event, and my wife and her team have walked the last two years. My business partner, Roz Allsop, also walked last year. It’s a brilliant community event that really supports the Hospice and helps to keep it going. For over 40 years, Michael Sobell has been of service to local people and beyond. It’s an invaluable resource.”

Ophelia added: “This is about celebrating 10 years of memories, and now we can look forward to making even more.”
