At Harlington Hospice, we believe in supporting each person to live meaningfully and in comfort, wherever that may be. For Arman, this meant helping him fulfil a deeply personal wish – to return home and be reunited with his family.
A wish to go home
Arman was just 43 when he came into our care at the Hospice after treatment at The Hillingdon Hospital. It was a difficult time for him; far from his home, and living with advanced cancer. From the moment he arrived, Arman expressed a clear wish – to return home to Tehran to be with his wife and young daughter.
Working together to make it possible
Time was precious, and the journey would not be easy. Working closely with medical colleagues, the Hospice team quickly came together to explore every possibility. We connected with Arman’s family abroad, identified someone who could accompany him home, and began arranging emergency travel documentation.
In the days that followed, our clinical team focused on stabilising Arman’s condition and ensuring he was strong enough to travel. With careful pain management, hydration, and emotional support, he was able to stay in touch with his loved ones while plans came together.
“This was a high-risk journey, but Arman’s determination and courage inspired us all to make it happen.”
Home at last
Just eight days after arriving at the Hospice, Arman was able to begin his journey home to Iran. Following careful coordination with the airline and medical professionals, he travelled safely and was met by an ambulance on arrival.
There, at last, Arman was reunited with his wife and daughter. It was an emotional moment for everyone involved, and a powerful reminder of what compassionate, person-centred care can achieve.
Although his time is short, Arman’s spirit has been lifted by reconnecting with his family, and our team continues to stay in touch with his care providers to ensure he remains comfortable and supported.
Making moments that matter
Arman’s story is a testament to the dedication and creativity of the Hospice team, who work tirelessly to make each person’s wishes possible – no matter how complex or challenging.
At Harlington Hospice, we know that care is not only about managing symptoms, but about listening, understanding, and helping people live – and love – in the ways that matter most.
