Mark the easing of lockdown while raising money alongside family and friends by signing up to take on the new-look Michael Sobell Hospice Ladies Around the Block Walk at 7.00pm on Friday 18th September – and the beauty of it is you get to choose the distance, who you want to walk with and where you want to walk!

Due to social distancing measures, a maximum number of six people are permitted to walk together in any one team, so the 10th anniversary of Michael Sobell Hospice Charity’s (MSHC) flagship fundraising event, Ladies in the Night Walk, has had to be re-designed from its original format: “The Fundraising Team has been working really hard behind-the-scenes over the past few months to come up with an alternative event for this milestone anniversary year,” explained Ophelia Chambers-Henry, MSHC Events Manager. “We desperately need to continue to raise funds with the pandemic impacting across all our fundraising activities and income streams this year, so by making this an event that everyone can take part in by walking around their block, park, garden or local neighbourhood, we hope to see a really good turnout.”

Men, women and children are invited to take on September’s walking challenge, kindly sponsored by Allsop Durn Solicitors, and even four-legged friends can join in the Friday night fun too!

Explaining a little more about how the event will work, Ophelia added: “Simply start off by deciding where you want to walk and the distance you want to do, either 5.5 or 10 miles, then go to the Michael Sobell Hospice Charity website and sign up. Entry is £15pp with a maximum number of six people permitted to walk together in any one team.”

Plans to kickstart the event include a fun Facebook live streamed warm-up to get walkers limbered up before setting off to take on their challenge. Prizes will also be awarded for the best dressed pooch on the night and to the walker who raises the most sponsorship money. All walkers are invited to upload any ‘in training’ photos and during the walk challenge itself to the Charity’s social media pages using #LadiesAroundTheBlock.

Commenting on why people should get behind this event which supports the specialist clinical care services provided at Michael Sobell Hospice, Ophelia said: “We need the community’s help in making this socially distanced event in aid of our Hospice a success. If you are already signed up, please help us by spreading the word and encourage others to get involved. It is also vital that every single person taking part aims to raise as much sponsorship as possible. If each walker pledges £100, we could raise thousands of pounds in just one night that will go towards supporting people in our community affected by life limiting illnesses – money that in these most difficult of times is much-needed and will be truly appreciated.”
