A team of five ladies and three dogs will be pounding 10 miles through the streets of Northwood and the surrounding areas on Friday 15th June for the Michael Sobell Hospice Charity (MSHC) Ladies in the Night Walk.
Sheila Hackett, a Ward Clerk at Michael Sobell Hospice (MSH), who lives in Rickmansworth, and her team called ‘The Roses’, are walking in memory of their friend Trina’s late husband Alan Rose, who was cared for at MSH last year.
Sheila said: “The care and support that MSH gave to Alan and Trina was far beyond what they expected, such as all the extra services including counselling the family and helping them to face the inevitable future. They felt the most safe when at the Hospice. We are doing this walk to help try and give back some of the love and support that MSH provided for Alan”.
The walk is the flagship event in the Charity’s fundraising calendar when hundreds of supporters come together on one night to raise money. This year’s event, which is being sponsored by Allsop Durn & Dearlove Solicitors, has a carnival theme, and a new 10-mile route, which will take walkers past the Charity’s three shops in Ruislip, Northwood and Eastcote and through the Manor Farm Heritage and Culture site in Ruislip. There is also a 5.5 mile route for those who like a shorter challenge.
The walk will start and finish at the MSH based on the Mount Vernon Hospital site, Northwood. There will be live carnival music provided by Steelpan soloist, Dex Marchan, male carnival dancers, a lively warm-up hosted by Clubbercise Watford to get the party started and music from Mount Vernon Hospital Radio.
Entry to the event costs £25 in advance or £35 on the night and includes a t-shirt, fundraising pack and breakfast. Entries after this time will be accepted IN PERSON on the night and will cost £35pp.
This year’s event will help to raise much-needed money for the Hospice Day Centre which is 100% funded by the Charity. The Day Centre supports patients with palliative care needs, to enable them to maintain their independence in a safe and supported environment, and to provide help for their carers. The Day Centre team can provide advice on symptom control, as well as counselling, complementary therapies, creative arts as therapy, crafts and outdoor activities. A number of clinical procedures are also undertaken.
