A group of students from the Media Production TV & Film course at West Herts College in Watford, have just produced a fly-on-the-wall fundraising film for the Michael Sobell Hospice Charity based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood.
The young filmmakers volunteered their time for the Charity over the course of two days, which they spent interviewing staff, volunteers, patients and their family members to gain a ‘first hand’ insight into the work of the Hospice which cares for local people with life-limiting illnesses.
The film will be used as a vital fundraising tool by the Charity which needs to raise over £1.6 million each year to provide vital palliative care and support to the local community.
Judi Byrne, Chief Executive of Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, (MSHC) said: “We are so delighted with the finished film. The students have worked very hard on this project and we hope that they will all benefit from the whole experience and also use the film for their future showreels. Videos are a very powerful way of raising awareness for a charity and we hope to use the film to show potential fundraisers exactly what we are all about and where the money raised goes.”
Jonathan Vianello, Course Leader for Level 3 Media Production TV & Film at West Herts College, commented on the project: “The students have thoroughly enjoyed the process of shooting the promotional video for the Hospice. They have been involved during all stages, and have been blown away by the work that takes place here. Of all the projects they have carried out, the students told me this is by far their most enjoyable, from both a cinematic and humanitarian point of view. Supporting charities is vital in today’s society, and to do whatever we can is nothing but positive and encouraging to those who are helped by them. The students have experienced emotional moments on this project that have changed their outlook on life forever. It has been a real pleasure to have been asked to shoot this video for the Charity, and we hope to work with the team again in the future.”
