We were delighted to welcome Councillor Steve Tuckwell, Leader of Hillingdon Council, and Councillor Susan O’Brien, Cabinet Member for Children, Families, Health and Care, to Harlington Hospice this week.
Following their recent appointments, the visit provided an opportunity to introduce them to the work of the hospice, learn more about the services we provide across the borough, and discuss how we can continue working together to support local people living with life-limiting illness.
During their visit, Steve and Susan met members of our team and toured the hospice, gaining an insight into the compassionate care and support we provide every day. They heard about the wide range of services available to patients and families, including inpatient care at Michael Sobell House, Hospice at Home, wellbeing and emotional support, bereavement services, and support for carers.
As a charity that is only part-funded by the NHS, the visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the important role the local community plays in sustaining hospice care. Every year, we rely on the generosity of local people, businesses and supporters to help fund many of the services that make such a difference to patients and their loved ones.
Building strong relationships with our local authority and health partners is an important part of ensuring people across Hillingdon can continue to access high-quality hospice care when they need it most. We welcomed the opportunity to share the challenges and opportunities facing hospice care and to explore how we can continue working together to meet the needs of our growing community.
Jane Wheeler, Chief Executive of Harlington Hospice, said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Steve and Susan to Harlington Hospice and to introduce them to our dedicated teams. Visits like these are invaluable in helping local leaders understand not only the care we provide, but also the impact hospice services have on patients, families and carers across Hillingdon.
We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with the Council and working together to ensure that everyone who needs hospice care and support can access it, both now and in the future.”
We would like to thank Councillor Steve Tuckwell and Councillor Susan O’Brien for taking the time to visit us, and we look forward to working together to support the health and wellbeing of our local community.
