A special day to remember
Living with a serious illness can make everyday activities, let alone a trip to the theatre, more difficult to plan. Having the right support can help people continue to enjoy experiences that matter to them.
The hospice medical team helped make Marisa’s trip possible by referring her to the Wish Ambulance, which supported her travel to and from the theatre. The family organised their own tickets, bringing everyone together for a special day out.
For Dr Ros Taylor MBE, who led the arrangements from the hospice’s side, helping to make the trip happen was an important part of Marisa’s care.
“When someone is living with serious illness, it can be easy for life to become focused around appointments, treatment and what they can no longer do. We wanted to help Marisa have an evening that was simply about enjoying herself and being with the people she loved.”
Making a special day possible
Living with a serious illness can make everyday activities, let alone a trip to the theatre, more difficult to plan. Having the right support can help people continue to enjoy experiences that matter to them.
Recognising how much this family outing could mean to Marisa, the hospice medical team made a referral to the Wish Ambulance to help make the journey possible. Marisa’s family organised the theatre tickets, bringing everyone together for a special day out.
With the arrangements in place, Marisa could look forward to spending time with her family and enjoying the show.
From the theatre to the pub
The family enjoyed the matinee celebrating the music of Frank Sinatra, sharing the experience across generations.
And the day did not end when the curtain came down. Afterwards, Marisa and her family went to the pub, extending their time together and making even more of their day out.
It was a chance to enjoy one another’s company, share the experience and create memories that the family could look back on.
Care that makes room for life’s special moments
Good care is about more than managing symptoms. It is about understanding each person, what matters to them and how they can be supported to make the most of the time they have.
Sometimes, that means helping someone spend time with loved ones, enjoy a favourite pastime or fulfil a wish that might otherwise be difficult to achieve.
For Marisa, it meant a family trip to the theatre, followed by a visit to the pub. With the hospice team’s support and the Wish Ambulance, a special day out became possible.
These moments matter. They offer opportunities to share experiences, strengthen connections and make memories together.
Your support helps Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House provide personalised care that looks beyond illness, helping people and their families make the most of the moments that matter.
